- Top 5 Tips for Better Air Quality
As the season changes into Spring, allergies are always at a high. What are some tips to ensure you are taking advantage of the air quality in your home. Trust Zoltera to get the job done right, the first time! Below are top 5 tips to improve indoor air quality. Tip #1 - Monitor Indoor Air Quality Some indoor air pollutants can be invisible and odorless, making them easy to miss without monitoring tools. One way to catch if you have poor quality, is if in the mornings, you wake up with a dry mouth - most likely your indoor air is polluted or not properly ventilated. Remember, each home has customizable air quality, no home is the same! Tip #2 - Ensure Proper Ventilation and Control Humidity This is such an important, yet forgotten step. Use exhaust fans when you are cooking on your stovetop (always), and use your bath fans when taking a bath or shower. Your indoor humidity should be read between 30-50%. Humidifiers are great for this, but too much humidity can also be a problem resulting in mold. Consider Zoltera to give you a free quote to keep your home safe and breathable! We offer a wide range of de-humidifers, humidifiers, and air purification systems. Always use a bath fan while taking a shower or bath to improve home air quality Tip #3 - Invest in an Air Purifier Consider upgrading with an Air Purification system. Tip #4 - Maintain Existing Equipment Most furnaces come with their pre-made filters to ensure the air you are pumping into your home is filtered. Purchasing HEPA filters is your next step for proper air quality. This is crucial to not only increase the life span of your equipment, but improves your own health! You can purchase these directly through our website here (Please make sure it is the right size prior to ordering! If you don't know, call us!): Tip #5 - Open Your Windows! Since the days are getting nicer, and the nights are getting warmer. Open up your windows! If you struggle with ventilation drafts in your home, having a window open can have many benefits. - Signs You Need An Emergency Furnace Repair
With this cold snap upon us here in the Okanagan, it is crucial you as a homeowner are aware of the risks and common repairs needed on a furnace in the time of a breakdown. Zoltera Mechanical has an emergency on-call technician ready to answer your phone call in case of a no heat situation. We take priority during these cold winter months for our no heat service calls and do not stop until we diagnosis your unit with repair costs and installation. Trust Zoltera to get the job done right, the first time! Below are some warning signs your equipment is needing an emergency repair. Tip #1 - Thermostat not Communicating This one might seem obvious, but majority of repairs for most emergency furnace repairs start and end with a thermostat error. Refer to your manual for details on how to monitor your current settings displayed on your thermostat. If your thermostat is still not communicating with your furnace attempt to switch your thermostat into "Auto" mode and observe if the furnace fan is still spinning. If it is, a more difficult problem may be present. Tip #2 - Yellow Flame in Furnace A yellow flame in your furnace may be a critical problem. In a normal furnace, the flame should be blue and sharp. Dirt in the burner panel may be causing the flame to turn yellow, do not attempt to fix this. Dirt in the burner is quite common in older furnaces, it prevents the gas and air to mix effectively. Call an expert at Zoltera to clean your burner. Blue Flame = Good. Yellow Flame = Bad Tip #3 - Fan Consistently Spinning It sure can be annoying to have that fan spinning! Not to mention, the increase on your utility bill! As we previously mentioned, if your furnace fan is consistently spinning after you have diagnosed your thermostat - it could be the result of a defective fan limit switch or one that is set to manual override. If you suspect an issue, call us at Zoltera and we can get a technician out to you to fix the constant noise and rotation. Tip #4 - Carbon Monoxide Detector Your carbon monoxide detector is there to help you, it is so important you do not ignore it going off. This could mean a potential gas leak coming from your furnace, or the ventilation system. This is considered a high risk service, please call a certified technician at Zoltera to get this fixed immediately! Tip #5 - No Heat Coming from Interior Vents Finally, a tip that on a cold day, it would be hard not to notice. If you find your interior vents or baseboard grilles do not have heat coming out of them - clearly the furnace has stopped working and you have no heat. These are not issues that can be fixed themselves, usually - a burnt pilot light or broken control board might be stopping the furnace from activating. Zoltera is here to help you, call us for the on-call technician to remedy your no heat situation. Keep On Top Of Maintenance Before an Emergency Unfortunately, these repairs seem to happen during the coldest nights of the year. To ensure this does not happen to you - consider our Annual Service Agreement. With this, you not only get priority service, but you ensure your equipment is up to par for the season ahead and you maintain all warranties. Stay warm out there!

- Prepare your Furnace and Heating Equipment for Winter
Zoltera is interested in keeping your home warm this season. Before the snow hits the ground, we recommend getting your Furnaces, Fireplaces, or any other heating equipment serviced now before your system can't keep up! By keeping up with preventative maintenance, your equipment stays running within manufacture specs, and ensures your warranty is still valid. Tip #1 - Turn on your Furnace prior to Winter negative tempatures It it smart to fire up your Furnace at least three times prior to the negative tempatures hit, this gives peace of mind that your equipment is working well for those cold days. If you are hesitant starting it up on your own, Zoltera Mechanical would happily come out and get it running. - Mini Split Cleaning: It's Needed!
Everything you need to know on cleaning your mini split, heating and cooling equipment. Keep your unit working effectively with these steps below! Like any home appliance, your mini-split air conditioner needs maintenance. You may forget at times how important this may be, but this is a very crucial thing for your household to keep running at tip-top shape! We've put together a simple guideline on steps to complete your at-home service, or better yet, call us to service! Why Is Mini-Split Cleaning So Important? Preventative measures ensure you deter any smells, odors or mold growing in your home. Recently, Zoltera serviced a three year old ductless split unit, and found mold build up, which was getting the household sick with their little 1 year old baby! Don't let this happen to you! How & When Do You Clean A Mini-Split? If you use your mini-split frequently as an air conditioner only, we recommend servicing the equipment once every year. If you run heat/cool through your system, we recommend once in the fall and once in the spring time. Make sure your equipment is turned off when you are ready to clean. At times, you may need to replace parts as they do get worn out. The two most common parts are the air filters, and coils. These are integral pieces for the function of the system. Be sure to tighten and screw all loose pieces, when you are cleaning the system be sure to keep an eye out for any bolts falling. The big question: what do you use to clean your unit? We recommend HVAC coil cleaners, or household products such as, water, vinegar, and little-to-no bleach. Are You Confident To Service? Zoltera Mechanical would happily do this on your behalf. We recommend a certified technician to accomplish this task, as leaking refrigerant is possible if not done correctly. Give us a shout, and ask us about your ductless split cleaning. We offer quotes on new equipment, upgrades, servicing and diagnosing on all heating/cooling appliances.
- How to prepare your HVAC equipment for fall
Can you believe it is fall already? It seems like just yesterday we were all enjoying summer days in the lake, hiking at nearby mountains, visiting family, or going wine tasting! Another season passed, let's start thinking about your HVAC equipment. Since we know those wildfires took a beating on our indoor equipment, let Zoltera be there for your HVAC needs this fall. Below are 5 tips to consider to get ready for those colder months ahead! Tip #1 - Consider Duct Cleaning Dust and debris equal to about 10 percent loss of efficiency for most coil and blower motor failures. This is a primary reason for higher utility costs to you during winter months. Consider duct cleaning for the fall season, at least once every 3 years to ensure your equipment is free of any contaminants or debris! Tip #2 - Clean Your Outdoor Unit Although the leaves falling may look peaceful, these leaves can cause major issues for your outdoor unit. They can become a fire hazard if branches get lodged into your equipment. Consider calling a technician to get your unit vacuumed and cleaned out for the fall season. "33% of all Air Conditioner fires happen from blockage, wires or cables not effectively being cleaned and maintained" – Insurance Specialist @ Insurancehub Tip #3 - Check Your Thermostat Ensure your equipment is working by checking your thermostat. If you own a programmable thermostat, set it for the fall months anywhere between 70-78 degrees, depending on the weather outside of course. If your thermostat does not communicate properly, or changes - it might be time for a service! Tip #4 - Replace Dirty Air Filters If you noticed your energy bills have increased over this fire season, consider replacing your air filters in your home. Do you smell burning, is your unit overheating? It might be time to replace. Zoltera has a variety of stock of all MERV 11, 16 filters. Tip #5 - Schedule Routine Maintenance By having your equipment serviced each season by a licensed and bonded Zoltera technician, you maintain your manufacture warranties, you ensure peak efficiency, and prolong the life span of your system. Call Zoltera for a quote on an annal service agreement, only $199/year! Get Help with your HVAC Fall Maintenance By following these tips above you will be ready for winter in no time!
